But when a demonic spirit appears, he may be the only one who can stop it from killing the living and the dead. This was Weta Digital’s first big film and it used more digital effects than any film before it to create the supernatural cast. By the end of the show, there were 40 computers hooked up to a network and more than 50 VFX crew figuring out how to make ghosts emerge from the walls. Many of the effects used in the film were created with technology and software developed by Weta Digital specifically for the film, setting a precedent for the company’s ongoing philosophy to push the boundaries of what is possible in VFX.
Frenetic, gleefully demented fun...not only the most efficient scare machine since The Evil Dead, but also the most innovative and accomplished movie of the year.
