Senior Head of Department — Shots
As Senior Head of Department of the Shots team, Phil works across all of Weta Digital’s films, overseeing the people involved in refining and finalising many of the final elements of a shot, including FX, lighting, compositing, and matte painting.
Phil ensures his teams’ work is of the highest calibre and that artists have the best possible tools to allow their creativity to shine.
Phil began his career at Rising Sun Pictures on films including Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Where the Wild Things Are. He arrived at Weta Digital in 2008 to join the final push on Avatar. He has since added many more credits to his name including Iron Man 3, The Adventures of Tintin, and Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. He was nominated for a VES award for Best Environment for his work on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
